We went to Auschwitz-Birkenau on Monday. It was quite an experience to say the least. They are actually 2 separate camps about 2 miles apart. Birkenau is so much bigger than I thought it was, it was a bit overwhelming. Auschwitz was emotionally difficult to get through. It is very well put together and informative museum. We went at 7:30am so it was not crowded with tour groups etc. so there was more of an impact with out the noise of lots of people. It is an experience that is hard to describe. Each barrack is set up with a different part of the history. The rooms with the personal items taken from the prisoners were very powerful. The room with the hair was the worst. Ana and I walked in and out almost immediately. It was just so overwhelmingly sad. Here are a few pictures, (it almost seemed disrespectful to take pictures).
